Biology Tutor Dubai, Built for Exam Precision
Biology marks are rarely lost on knowledge alone. They are lost on how an answer is built. Work 1-to-1 with specialist Biology tutors in Dubai to master 6-mark questions, data analysis, practical skills and the Internal Assessment.
Tutoring Biology students across Dubai's leading British, IB, and International schools.

Why Biology answers lose marks they should have earned
A student can know the content thoroughly and still drop marks in exams. Biology mark schemes reward specific wording, in a specific order.
1. Command Terms: Describe vs Explain vs Suggest vs Evaluate
Many students write a lengthy description of what is happening when the question specifically asks for an explanation of the underlying biological mechanism.
We train students to decipher command words immediately: 'Describe' = state the trend and quote figures; 'Explain' = provide the biological cause (e.g. active site conformation change); 'Evaluate' = balance supporting evidence against limitations.
Question: 'Explain why rate drops above 45°C.' Writing 'The line goes down after 45°C' scores 0. Writing 'Kinetic energy breaks hydrogen and ionic bonds, denaturing the tertiary active site so substrate no longer fits' scores full 3 marks.
Most Biology marks are lost in how the answer is written, not in what the student knows.

The Biology practical work examiners actually assess
Practical skills, Paper 6 / Alternative to Practical, and the IB Biology Internal Assessment reward experimental design, statistical treatment and honest evaluation. We coach every stage with mark-scheme precision.
1. Research Question & Variables
Writing a focused, testable question with explicitly controlled biological variables. Avoiding open-ended topics that fail Criterion B (Inquiring & Designing).
2. Data & Uncertainties
Recording raw data to consistent decimal precision, calculating standard deviations, and plotting realistic error bars that justify biological slopes.
3. Statistical Testing
Selecting and computing the correct statistical test: Student's t-test for comparing two means, Chi-squared (χ²) for genetics ratios, and Spearman's rank correlation.
4. Conclusion & Evaluation
Judging conclusions directly against the data, identifying systematic apparatus errors versus natural biological variability, and proposing quantifiable modifications.
The statistics side of Biology
Many Biology students lose practical marks on data treatment rather than on the experiment itself. We make sure graphs, statistical tests (p-values, null hypotheses, degrees of freedom) and evaluation hold up to examiner scrutiny.
“The experiment is the easy half. The data analysis is where the top marks are made.”
HL or SL? Four honest questions
Not a quiz. Four things worth being truthful about before your child's IB subject choices are locked in.
Does your child enjoy memorising detail and linking it into long explanations?
HL Biology requires encyclopaedic detail across extra topics (cladistics, gene expression regulation, Calvin cycle nuances, kidney counter-current multipliers) and expects multi-layered synoptic linking under strict time constraints. SL tests the core concepts thoroughly, but with significantly fewer metabolic steps to recall.
Are they planning a university course in medicine, biomedical science, dentistry, veterinary science or biology?
Most premier medical schools (both in the UK, UAE, and internationally) mandate Chemistry HL, and many either require or strongly favour Biology at HL. If medicine or biological research is on their horizon, taking HL is the established pathway.
How comfortable are they with data handling and statistics?
Both HL and SL require statistical analysis in the Internal Assessment. However, HL exam papers feature significantly more quantitative data analysis and experimental design questions. A child comfortable reading rates, slopes, and error bars will thrive in HL.
How does Biology fit alongside the rest of their subject load?
Biology HL carries one of the heaviest reading and recall workloads in the IB Diploma. If paired with Maths AA HL or Chemistry HL, study schedules require rigorous time management from Term 1.
A-Level Biology (Cambridge 9700 / Edexcel IAL) requires bridging the gap from simple GCSE recall to synoptic essay writing (Paper 5) and advanced practical skills (Paper 3 / Paper 5). The course moves quickly; establishing diagnostic support early prevents cumulative topic debt.

Inside a 6-Mark Biology Question
Click any stage below to inspect how examiners award marks and how a student transforms an average answer into a full 6/6.
Identify 'Explain' vs 'Describe'
The question asks: 'Explain the effect of increasing temperature from 10°C to 60°C on the rate of an amylase-catalysed reaction. [6 marks]'
Moving into IB or A-Level partway through
Students arriving from another curriculum or moving up from Year 11 are rarely behind on content. They are behind on how the work is judged.
The gap is describable, which means it closes quickly once someone names it.
Our 3-Step Diagnostic Approach
A systematic framework designed to convert biological knowledge into examination precision.
Diagnostic Baseline
We pinpoint whether marks leak from content gaps, answer structure, data skills, or the IA. A 30-minute diagnostic reveals the exact mark-scheme barrier.
First-Principles Rebuilding
Difficult topics such as oxidative phosphorylation, protein synthesis, synaptic transmission, and homeostasis are taught step by step until intuitive.
Exam-Standard Drills
Timed past-paper questions mapped to the exact mark scheme. Students learn to count marks as they write, ensuring no points are left on the table.
What Dubai Parents Say
"Our daughter was getting 5s in IB Biology HL at Dubai College because she kept writing descriptions instead of explanations. After four sessions targeting command words and biochemical linking, her Paper 2 technique transformed completely."
